Mayor Firhad Hakim, during the monthly session of the Corporation, stated that several major fire incidents have occurred in Kolkata in recent days, calling it a matter of concern. He said that due to hawkers occupying narrow lanes, fire engines often face difficulty accessing affected areas. He also pointed out that although deep tubewells exist in many parts of the city, it becomes difficult to draw water from them during fire emergencies. He informed the House that, as per the instructions of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the Fire Committee will prepare a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and submit it after getting approval from the Cabinet.
